Αφού ταξίδεψαν στα αστέρια στο πλήρες εγχείρημά τους, οι NITE αντιμετωπίζουν τώρα τη σκοτεινή μυθολογία που βρίσκεται αδρανής κάτω από το υπογάστριο της κοινωνίας στο “Cult of the Serpent Sun”.
Κάθε μία από τις οκτώ φλογερές μάχες στο νέο τους άλμπουμ δοκιμάζει το σθένος των λαμπαδηδρόμων της Bay Area.
Αλλά μέσα στους δηλητηριώδεις κινδύνους της, η μπάντα βγαίνει θριαμβευτής με λευκό-καυτό, blackened heavy metal.

Από τότε που ενώθηκαν το 2018, οι NITE μεταφέρουν τη σκυτάλη για το μέταλλο Bay Area.
Στο “Cult of the Serpent Sun”, το τετραμελές τετραμελές του Σαν Φραγκισκανό τριπλασιάζει σοφά το αξιόπιστο οπλοστάσιό του.
Το ομώνυμο κομμάτι μπαίνει στη φωτιά της μάχης με όλη τη δερμάτινη δόξα των θεών του heavy metal της δεκαετίας του ’80.
Η φιλοσοφία “more-is-more” πίσω από το “Cult of the Serpent Sun” καθοδηγήθηκε από αυτό που συγκέντρωσαν οι NITE από την έφοδο στη σκηνή στο North West Terror Fest και την πορεία στα νοτιοδυτικά στο δρόμο προς το Hell’s Heroes VI.
«Οι θαυμαστές ανταποκρίθηκαν πραγματικά σε παλαιότερα τραγούδια όπως το “Acheron” και το “Genesis”», λέει ο τραγουδιστής και κιθαρίστας Van Labrakis.
Το “Cult of the Serpent Sun” έχει περισσότερα τραγούδια που είναι γρήγορα και αισιόδοξα και βοηθούν στην ανύψωση του ηθικού των ανθρώπων».
Στο “Crow (Fear the Night)”, οι πρωταγωνιστές μονομαχίας του Λαμπράκη και του Scot Hoffman σκαρφαλώνουν στην πλάτη του ντράμερ Patrick Crawford σαν δύο πουλιά του ίδιου φτερού.
Αλλά ενώ είναι ευλογημένη με αποδεδειγμένη χημεία, η ιδιαίτερη αλχημεία του NITE ορίζεται από αντιθέσεις.
Όπως λέει η Crawford στο τελευταίο τεύχος του New Noise: «το σκοτάδι και το φως, το καλό και το κακό.
Γιορτάζουμε και τα δύο στοιχεία.
Χωρίς το ένα, δεν μπορείς να έχεις το άλλο».
Με μελωδικά riffs που στάζουν σαν κερί κεριού, το “The Mystic” λάμπει σαν μεταμεσονύκτια σεάνς.
“Fire / Bring me to life”, ο Λαμπράκης γνέφει καθώς ο μπασίστας Avinash Mittur τεντώνει τον χρόνο και τον χώρο σε ένα υπνωτικό groove.
Ενώ περιβάλλεται από τελετουργίες φωτιάς και γλιστράει με φιδίσιους ημίθεους, η Λατρεία του Ήλιου του Φιδιού γράφτηκε μέσα σε σκιές που έφερε η πραγματική ζωή.
«Το NITE προσπαθεί να είναι ένα φως», λέει ο Λαμπράκης. «Αυτό το άλμπουμ είναι για το πώς επιμένουμε σε καιρούς απέραντου σκότους».
Η σκληραγωγημένη φωνή του στέκεται προκλητικά στο ξεχωριστό “Carry On”, το οποίο καταγγέλλει τους κινδύνους του πολέμου με τσεκούρια υψωμένα ψηλά και ισχυρά.

Ever since banding together in 2018, NITE has carried the torch for Bay Area metal. On Cult of the Serpent Sun, the San Franciscan four-piece wisely triple down on their trusty arsenal.
The title track snakes into the heat of battle with all the leathery glory of ’80s heavy metal gods.
The “more-is-more” philosophy behind Cult of the Serpent Sun was guided by what NITE garnered from storming the stage at North West Terror Fest and marching across the Southwest on the way to Hell’s Heroes VI. “Fans really responded to older songs like ‘Acheron’ and ‘Genesis’, vocalist and guitarist Van Labrakis says.
“Cult of the Serpent Sun has more songs that are fast and upbeat and help lift people’s spirits”.
On “Crow (Fear the Night)”, the duel leads of Labrakis and Scot Hoffman climb on the back of drummer Patrick Crawford’s foundation-shaking march like two birds of the same feather.
But while blessed with proven chemistry, NITE’s particular alchemy is defined by contrasts. As Crawford says in the latest issue of New Noise: “the dark and the light, the good and the evil.
We celebrate both elements. Without one, you can not have the other”.
With melodic riffs that drip like candle wax, “The Mystic” glistens like a midnight seance. “Fire / Bring me to life”, Labrakis beckons as bassist Avinash Mittur stretches time and space into a hypnotic groove.
While ringed by rituals of fire and slithering with serpentine demi-gods, Cult of the Serpent Sun was written amidst shadows brought on by real life. “NITE strives to be a light”, says Labrakis.
“This album is about how we persevere in times of immense darkness”.
His road-hardened voice stands defiant on standout “Carry On”, which denounces the perils of war with axes raised high and mighty.
