Charlotte Wessels, the former DELAIN vocalist, and her band, now dubbed The
Obsession, will release their second full-length, full-band studio album, “Mute Swan Empire“, on February 5th, 2027 via Napalm Records. The album arrives just in time for Charlotte Wessels’ first-ever headlining tour across Europe, kicking off on February 4th, 2027, in Sint-Niklaas, Belgium, one day prior to the album release.“Mute Swan Empire” is a character-driven concept album in which each of its 15 tracks inhabits an archetype that emerges at the end of the Anthropocene, exploring how different people respond to climate breakdown, social injustice, and the collapse of familiar futures.
Charlotte Wessels said about the album:
“This record has grown into something much bigger than a collection of songs. It’s a concept album built around a series of archetypes: different ways we respond to the world around us, the roles we play, and the contradictions we carry. Through these characters, we explore some of the uncomfortable questions surrounding the state of our world, from ecological and social collapse to the stories we tell ourselves to make sense of it all. The title draws on the myth of the swan song: the belief that a swan sings its most beautiful song just before its death. But what if we don’t get one? What if we’ve pushed ourselves so close to the edge that we’ve lost, or no longer deserve, that final act of grace? Will the swan remain silent? We’ve poured so much into this album, from the music and lyrics to the world built around them, and I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve created together. I can’t wait for you to step into this world and discover these songs.”
