Signs Of Algorithm: “Sunchaser” album review

Nine years after their debut “Harbinger”, Belgian band Signs Of Algorithm return with their long-awaited sophomore album “Sunchaser” — a release that firmly cements the band’s evolution and maturity, showcasing a sonic identity that masterfully balances raw aggression with atmospheric depth.

“Sunchaser” stands as a bold statement. Built upon the core elements of modern progressive metalcore, it isn’t afraid to stretch the genre’s limits. Across nine tracks, the album unfolds into a listening experience that is both melodic and violent, introspective yet explosive. Ambient sections give way to furious breakdowns, all held together by pristine production and coherent composition.

Frederikc Vanhille’s vocal performance is undeniably one of the band’s most defining elements. His remarkable range and emotional intensity elevate every track, acting as a dynamic force throughout the album. Meanwhile, the guitar work offers surgical precision — whether delivering punishing riffs or delicate melodic phrasing, the execution is nothing short of captivating.

Produced by Belgian sound engineer Didier Vanassche and mixed/mastered by the renowned American team at Atrium Audio, “Sunchaser” benefits from a clear, deep, and balanced sound, transforming the listening experience into something almost immersive.

Thematically, the album explores dark aspects of modern life — digital enslavement, algorithmic addiction, and the loss of self in a world consumed by technology. The band doesn’t shy away from confronting these realities: “Sad but true, we act like servants,” they state — a brutal reflection of our screen-obsessed society.

Highlights include the emotionally charged “Memento”, the explosive “We All Bury Our Sins”, as well as “First We Dream Then We Die” and “Digital Domination” — tracks that blend technical precision with conceptual depth.

The minimalist yet symbolically rich album cover further reinforces the project’s aesthetic integrity, contributing to a unified artistic vision.

Fans of Born Of Osiris, Slaughter To Prevail, and August Burns Red will find Sunchaser an essential listen.

Though long-awaited, the new album by Signs Of Algorithm proves well worth the time, solidifying their standing within the European progressive metalcore scene and confirming their place among the most compelling bands in the genre.
