With the EP “Introduction to Self-Destruction,” the German thrash metallers Stagewar celebrate twenty years of presence in the scene.
The band was founded in 2003 by two friends, Kimon Roggenbuck and Dominik Dezius, and they have since released three full-length albums: “Living On Thrash” (2011), “Killing Fast” (2016), which came out just before the COVID-19 pandemic, “Danger To Ourselves” (2021), and the EP “Introduction to Self-Destruction” (2023), which arrived in the post-COVID era, a period that seems to have influenced their lyrics. They have become quite well-known in the European and global underground scene.
The EP “Introduction to Self-Destruction” consists of five tracks. The title track is pure Thrash Metal from the ’80s, with clear Metallica influences in the solos. “Make Some Noise” is an anthem-like track with melodies and rhythms that pump up the crowd. “Dead Again” blends Scandinavian Heavy Metal with Thrash and stands out as the best track on the EP. “What’s Wrong With The World Today” is a perfect example of merging thrash metal and punk, with solos reminiscent of Megadeth. “Save The World” features the hardest and most aggressive guitar riffs on the EP.
Stagewar have crafted a very solid EP with more commercial riffs compared to their previous work, making them more accessible to the mainstream audience, while still using compositions that recall the early decades of Thrash Metal. It’s a release worth listening to.
