Stephen Percy Steve Harris as his full name is today, March 12, 1956 (age 67), was born in Leytonstone, East London. Football was his great love from childhood and he became an athlete of the academies of his favorite team, West Ham United at the age of 14. After one season he stopped football and showed interest in music.
In 1971, he bought a Fender Precision model for forty quid and taught himself to play, with Wishbone Ash, UFO and Genesis as his main influences. He formed his first band called Influence with some friends, changing their name to Gypsy’s Kiss, after they broke up Harris joined Smiler in February 1974.
In December 1975, Steve Harris decided to form his own band, perhaps the premier heavy metal band, naming it Iron Maiden. He met Dave Murray and they started playing in pubs in London. In 1978, singer Paul Di’Anno was added. On December 30, 1979, they recorded The Soundhouse Tapes demo with the band rising to underground popularity. To date, being the bass player, leader, main composer and the mind-soul of Iron Maiden, he has released 16 albums and played countless live shows all over the world.
