EPIC Records

Epic Records is a major American record label, founded in 1953 by the Columbia Records unit of CBS to release jazz, pop, and classical music that didn’t fit Columbia’s lineup. It later expanded into rock, R&B, country, pop, hip-hop, and electronic genres. Over the decades, Epic has released landmark albums by artists like Michael Jackson (“Thriller”), Céline Dion, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Pearl Jam, Rage Against the Machine, and many contemporary stars including Travis Scott, Future, 21 Savage, Fiona Apple, Shakira, and Tori Kelly. It became part of Sony Music Entertainment following Sony’s acquisition of CBS Records in 1987 and remains one of Sony’s premier labels today under the leadership of Sylvia Rhone.
