DEUS CULPA is one of the cases of bands that made an impression from the beginning of their career even though they hit a wall called COVID. Even before releasing their first album, “Precarious”, they became known mainly due to the tremendous energy they bring out on stage but also their generally well prepared stage presence. As a result, they already have a significant fan base that causes havoc at their live shows (believe me, I have seen it with my own eyes 2-3 times).

However, they had to start creating their own portfolio and this was done with their first full-length album, “Precarious”, which was released in early October. The common denominator of the songs is social concern and the, in a way, political discourse that the guys express through their lyrics. The society we live in and the global turmoil that prevails gives food for thought and inspiration to every thinking artist and DEUS CULPA show that they belong to this category. They create music not based on a grand plan or strategic choice but based on what they feel and want to express. At least, that is the impression I got from listening to their album.

We could say this is the way they compose music as well. In the eleven songs of the album, one can identify various influences, making it difficult to classify the band in a specific genre of Metal. From classic Heavy from the ‘80s to modern Alternative, but also parts that remind me of Stoner (“Silver”). We have typical mid-tempo songs like the dynamic “Lost in the Way” with which the album opens, but also ballads like “Dark” that completes the journey of “Precarious”. Another characteristic is the addictive choruses that are just perfect for live shows. An example is “So Many Years”, one of my favorite songs on the album and probably the reason is that from the second, third time I caught myself humming the chorus. My second favorite is “Isle Od Dirt” mainly because it combines many elements such as an ideal balance of guitar and drums, dynamism, catchy melody. Another thing that stood out to me is the beginning of “Room to Breathe” with the slightly distorted vocals that give the feeling that Nik is looking for space to breathe. The contribution of singer Nikrod (Nikos Tsiampas) is undoubtedly important, who, without exaggerating, brings out through his singing the necessary anger and intensity that the theme of the songs requires.

DEUS CULPA are moving forward and are taking careful but bold steps. In fact, during the first quarter of 2026 they will embark on their first European tour with stops in the United Kingdom, Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary and of course Greece. Their music is ideal for the stage and the four musicians have already proven that they got this.
