Sometimes you find gold where you least expect it. The latest gold mine to fall into our hands is a new band from Zhytomyr in central-western Ukraine, TRIA PRIMA. In the midst of war, three guys decided to form an Alchemical (??) Death Metal band (that’s how they introduce themselves), proving that even in the worst conditions there is room for creativity. Perhaps it is even necessary…

TRIA PRIMA’s first full-length album is out on November 18 and it’s awesome. In over 40 minutes of relentless Death Metal, TRIA PRIMA try to think outside the box. They mix classic Death Metal norms with female and male clean vocals, operatic in some cases, choral vocals, substantial and solid lead guitars, and dynamic drum rolls. They even enlist a church organ (“Transmutation”) to create the atmosphere they desire. There are also more modern touches, such as the futuristic intro to “Mortificatio” or the classic, beloved guitar solos in “Actum Exitium” and “Arcanum Six.” There are also some illustrious guests, such as Trevor Nadir of Italian legends SADIST on “Transmutation,” which, along with the introductory “Arx Fatalis,” are perhaps the two most polished songs on the album. On the other hand, of course, in some cases the abundance of ideas led to exaggerations, as the musicians tried to fit everything in, lengthening the duration of some songs without this offering anything substantial to the final result.

Nevertheless, we have an album that has a lot to offer, and hopefully TRIA PRIMA will manage to communicate it as much as possible to the European audience, despite the obstacles they may face due to the war (such as restrictions on travel abroad or lack of financial resources).
