German Melodic Heavy Metallers Dark Sky are a historic band that was founded in 1982 and has to its credit three demos and seven full-length works including “Sign of The Time” which was released on the fourth of August. Their unique sound is the result of their forty-one years in the field and can be compared to that of Scorpions, Magnum, Pretty Maids, Treat, Gary Moore, Europe but also with bands of the new generation such as Sonata Arctica, Nightwish, Beast In Black and others . It should be noted that they are an old school live band who tour frequently and play music with passion and dedication and have established themselves as a force to be reckoned with on the global heavy metal scene. So let’s take a look at the album “Signs Of Time” which consists of thirteen tracks.
“Signs of Time” is a diverse album and this can be seen from its structure. It opens epically with the instrumental introductory track “Trail to Glory”. The main core of the record is based on the melodic Hard Rock tracks “Fool”, “Wonderland” and “In the Heat of the Night”. The dynamic Heavy tracks of the record with catchy riffs and classic solos are “Heroes on Ice”, which is the first track of the record, as well as “Forgiveness”. There are also tracks with harder riffs and a dark style lyrically and musically like “Signs of the Time”, “Zombie”, “We are Falling” and “You & Me”. With the concert “St. Tropez” transports us to the 80’s, light, melancholic transports us mentally to the wild parties of that time. The album’s ballads hit straight to the heart, these are: “It’s Not The End” which starts slowly and melodically under the melancholy notes of the piano and culminates with a melodic solo that awakens the feelings and “Stín Kátedral” which is also song that concludes this musical journey and leaves a bittersweet taste to the listener.
Dark Sky have made an excellent record. Combining with great mastery Heavy guitar riffs, keyboard melodies influenced by the great Hair Metal bands of the nineties and the nineties but also by more modern symphonic Metal as we mentioned above. They managed to musically unite the past with the future in such a way that the old ones can reminisce about those wonderful years, and the new generations can on the one hand identify with the melodies that are familiar to them and on the other hand give them a taste of the past.
