GRAND CADAVER, the supergroup comprised of current and former members of DARK TRANQUILLITY, KATATONIA, TIAMAT and more, have unveiled their new single, “Darkened Apathy“. The track comes from their new EP, “The Rot Beneath“, which has been scheduled for release on August 15th via Majestic Mountain Records.
“Darkened Apathy”, has been described by No Clean Singing as: “GRAND CADAVER continue depressing their accelerator. The drums kick into a gallop; tremolo’d riffing creates a vicious sonic swarm that rabidly writhes as it desperately ascends and dismally descends; the vocals reach new fever pitches of serrated-edge ferocity; a lead guitar wails overhead.”
The outfit collectively stated of this new cut: “The world is burning, and the people set it alight with indifference and apathy. A death metal protest song, where the wise are silenced and the unconcerned are in control.”
Their debut EP, “Madness Comes” from 2021, was recorded in just three days and released via Majestic Mountain Records, reaching #9 on the Swedish physical charts. It was followed by their first full-length, “Into the Maw Of Death”, which earned praise for its ferocious spin on OSDM.
In 2023, GRAND CADAVER returned with “Deities Of Deathlike Sleep”, recorded at Welfare Sounds and hailed for blending punishing riffs with doom-tinged atmosphere. Their long-awaited live debut in Gothenburg proved the band could bring the same visceral force to the stage, delivering death metal with no gimmicks and no mercy.
Now, in 2024, GRAND CADAVER is back with their most explosive material yet: the new EP “The Rot Beneath”, due out August 15th via Majestic Mountain Records. The release will be available on vinyl, and will coincide with a limited reissue of their debut full-length “Into The Maw Of Death” — a must-have for fans of old school Swedish Death Metal.
The band comments about the new EP: “When you look at the state of the world today, it’s difficult not to feel despair. We see madness, death, war, corruption and polarisation. And it makes you think, what are we if not the cause of the problem, what are we but the rot beneath? This is the anthem to mankind’s demise.”
