Against the flow of things, against the erosion of time, Kreator — among the few remaining hardcore survivors of the 1980s — continue relentlessly to deliver high-quality thrash metal. Yes, thrash, regardless of what any haters might say.
The band’s new album, Krushers of the World, does not reinvent the wheel, but it proudly keeps the banner of the German scene flying high — a scene that has been exceptionally strong in recent years.
Once again, the album is defined by its powerful, top-tier production and its groovy tracks, which make choosing songs for the next live setlist a real headache.
Kreator write and release music without obligations. Yes, in recent years one could accuse them of similarities between their releases — but what does that matter for a band that has nothing left to prove?
The ten tracks that make up Krushers of the World are the epitome of the German school, featuring all the elements we have come to know over the years — elements that Kreator themselves helped shape and establish.
The album opens with “Seven Serpents,” a classic Kreator track and one of the strongest, followed by a trio consisting of the hit “Satanic Anarchy,” the slower-paced “Krushers of the World,” and the darker “Tränenpalast.”
The assault continues with Mille Petrozza shouting “Barbarian — Barbarian,” reminding us “This is your time” on “Blood of Our Blood.” The next trio of songs begins with the epic “Combatants,” continues with what is perhaps the album’s weakest track, “Psychotic Imperator,” and concludes with the more aggressive “Death Scream,” before the album closes perfectly with “Loyal to the Grave.”
Overall, Krushers of the World is an easy album to listen to, with excellent flow, a familiar songwriting approach, and production that Kreator clearly trust — and no one can fault them for that. What remains is simply to enjoy, once again, great songs from our favorite band.
