Live Report: Deus Culpa, Reversed (Piraeus Academy – Athens – Greece, 21/3/2026)

The Greek metal scene continues to thrive, with a new generation of artists emerging and making their mark. This was evident on Saturday, March 21, at Piraeus Academy, where DEUS CULPA and REVERSED delivered a sold-out show, celebrating the release of DEUS CULPA’s debut full-length album, “Precarious”, and presenting it to the Greek audience.

The evening opened with REVERSED, who, despite a slight delay as the venue filled, immediately captured the crowd’s attention. Their performance was high-energy from start to finish, blending modern alternative metal with clear influences from AVENGED SEVENFOLD, RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, and other American metal acts mostly. They also impressed with a cover of AVENGED SEVENFOLD’s “Hail To The King”, and previewed three unreleased tracks alongside six of their existing songs, giving fans a glimpse of new material. Musically, they were amazing, proving once again what many older musicians have told me—that the new generation is better than the corresponding older generations at this age. The audience responded enthusiastically, showing that many had come specifically to see them.

After a short break to reset the stage, DEUS CULPA took over, fresh from a European tour. A video montage of tour highlights played on the video wall, showcasing the band’s strong bond both on and off stage.

In our recent interview, the band had mentioned a live show where they opened for a black metal band, so the audience was of that style. Nevertheless, they managed, with their energy, to capture the crowd’s attention, and by the end, everyone—audience and band—was jumping together on stage. The band delivered the same dynamic and heartfelt performance, playing almost the entirety of “Precarious”, along with surprise covers such as THE OFFSPRING’s “The Kids Aren’t Alright” and IRON MAIDEN’s “The Evil That Men Do”. One of the most moving moments came during “Dark”, performed with members of REVERSED and dedicated to loved ones who have passed. The show wrapped up around midnight, with the audience staying until the very end—a testament to the evening’s success.

DEUS CULPA stood out not only for their music but also for their connection with fans. Warm, approachable and communicative, they greeted and thanked the crowd waiting outside the venue before the show—a detail that, while not strictly musical, underscores their professionalism in a highly competitive scene. This sold-out show demonstrated that Greek metal is alive, evolving, and driven by a passionate new generation of artists.

P.S. 1: Visually, the absence of a drum riser was unusual, leaving the drummer partially hidden at the back of the stage.

P.S. 2: It was heartening to see musicians from other bands supporting their friends—a reminder that only a united metal scene can thrive. Let’s all remember this, especially those of us involved in music in various roles.
