There’s a clear “before and after” in the Azorean heavy metal scene, and MORBID DEATH sit right on that fault line. The band first formed on São Miguel in September 1990, with Ricardo Santos, Dinis Costa, Miguel Veríssimo and Pedro Rodrigues setting out to build something bigger than the islands’ limits. Thirty-plus years later, through demos, albums, videos, tours and line-up changes, that same drive is still the point. Reinvent when you have to, push forward when it gets difficult, and keep the band alive.

Their next chapter is “Veil of Ashes”, due in March 2026 through Firecum Records in partnership with Museu do Heavy Metal Açoriano. The record was recorded at StepKeys Studio in Ponta Delgada, with mixing and mastering handled there as well. Two advance cuts have already opened the door, “Hole Worm” and “World of Lies”, both pointing to a tougher, sharper direction, with the band leaning back into the weight and urgency that made their name in the first place.
