Primal Fear – “Domination” album review

“Domination” by Primal Fear is an album that has already received rave reviews, hailed as one of the band’s finest moments in recent years despite the recent lineup changes.

The album marks a new era for Primal Fear, following Mat Sinner’s health struggles and the addition of Thalìa Bellazecca on guitar and André Hilgers on drums. The production is impressive, with an aggressive and modern sound that still preserves the band’s old-school aesthetic. Production credits go to Mat Sinner, Ralf Scheepers, and Magnus Karlsson, while mixing and mastering were handled by Jacob Hansen.

“Domination” consists of 13 tracks and runs for nearly an hour. It kicks off powerfully with “The Hunter” and reaches new heights with songs like “Destroyer”, “Far Away”, and the self-referential “I Am The Primal Fear.”
“Tears of Fire” stands out as an emotionally charged power ballad, while tracks like “Eden”, “Crossfire”, and “March Boy March” highlight the album’s variety and fresh songwriting approach.

Ralf Scheepers delivers a captivating performance, proving that he remains one of the top heavy metal vocalists even after decades in the scene.

The twin guitars of Karlsson and Bellazecca breathe new life into the music with fresh riffs and melodic lines, offering both traditional power metal and modern touches. The lineup changes haven’t weakened the band’s strength; on the contrary, they’ve brought a sense of renewal and creative energy.

“Domination” is an impressive comeback, proving that Primal Fear remain a benchmark in heavy/power metal.
With outstanding compositions, explosive performances, and flawless production, it stands proudly alongside the band’s best works. Highly recommended to every fan of the genre – and beyond.
