Slomatics “Atomicult” album review

After nearly two decades carving their path through the underground, Slomatics from Belfast, Northern Ireland (UK), now return with “Atomicult”, their eighth full-length album and the first on their new label, Majestic Mountain Records!

The new album finds Slomatics at the peak of their creativity, with a sound heavier, more cosmic, and more enchanting than ever.
It’s a radically psychedelic and atmospheric offering that expands their already distinctive sonic territory.

The roughly forty minutes of the album unfold like a sequence of science fiction imagery, filled with crushing riffs, melodic passages, and adventurous compositions.

From the very first track, “Obey Capricorn”, the listener is transported into another world, with compositions woven from elements of doom, progressive, and space rock, while synths add a haunting sci-fi backdrop.

Produced by Rocky O’Reilly at Start Together Studios and mastered by the legendary James Plotkin, the sound brings out every detail with both power and a unique identity.

Tracks like “Obey Capricorn”, “Night Grief”, and the epic “Physical Witching” embody all of the above, showcasing inventive structures and bursts of psychedelic intensity.

The vocal delivery on “Atomicult” is mysterious, with a fitting melodic sensibility. The guitars, naturally, take center stage, but the rhythm section anchors the album with an astonishingly dark, slow tempo — at times breaking out into more aggressive rhythms.

“Atomicult” is not just another album; it’s a journey into the heart of guitar-driven soul and atmospheric landscapes, pushing the listener toward a thrilling experience filled with dark and dreamlike pathways.

Overall, with “Atomicult”, Slomatics reach a high point in the modern doom/progressive scene, once again proving themselves to be among the most important bands in the genre.
