The STELLAR CIRCUITS are a band that remain relatively unknown in our part of the world. Formed in 2013 in Northern Carolina, their sound combines Progressive Metal with several Alternative and distinctly American Metalcore influences.
A few days ago, they released four songs which, however, the band themselves do not consider as an EP, but rather as separate singles. These tracks come to complement and expand upon the sound they presented on their latest full-length album, “Phantom :: Phoenix”. STELLAR CIRCUITS attempt to strike a balance between atmospheric textures and dynamic riffs through a modern perspective that seems particularly appealing to younger metal audiences.
A characteristic example is “Spotlight”, which perfectly captures this balancing act between emotional atmosphere and explosive heaviness, expressed mainly through the performance of Ben Beddick, who demonstrates a satisfying degree of versatility. On “Wounded Healer”, on the other hand, the atmosphere becomes darker and more tense, without neglecting the transitions between the different creative elements.
“Stargazer” is probably the catchiest release of the four, featuring dynamic guitar riffs and a distinctive chorus that stays with the listener. Its character is particularly introspective, dealing with the search for inner truth and various obsessions, while fitting perfectly with the cinematic character of the composition.
Finally, “In The Smoke” closes the quartet by emphasizing the atmospheric side of STELLAR CIRCUITS through its rhythmic changes and progressive character.
This particular “EP”, as we might call it, is a good opportunity for someone to discover STELLAR CIRCUITS without having to go through their entire discography. Short and to the point, STELLAR CIRCUITS present us with their identity in its new, evolved form, while perhaps also opening a window into their artistic future and the paths they may explore on their next full-length release.
