TEMOR: Weeping Waves album review

Here we have the new second album by Temor, a band formed in 2023 that, right from the start with the release of their debut album My Sorrow’s Rage, showed the way modern melodic death metal should sound.

Guitars take center stage, featuring excellent riffs and outstanding solos, creating a very interesting approach to the classic melodic death metal sound. The rhythm section keeps the album tightly bound, adding both power and groove.

Thyragon delivers what may be the best performance of his career so far, with his signature deep and aggressive vocal style. The clean vocals are also particularly well-placed and fitting.

The work done in the studio is evident on all levels, especially in the mixing, which will be appreciated not only by fans of the genre but also by those who don’t عادة prefer extreme music.

The production is polished yet not overdone, revealing all the band’s strengths while maintaining a familiar and accessible sound.

The cover artwork, although fitting, might have benefited from being a bit more striking.

The entire album is very enjoyable to listen to, to the point that you want to replay it immediately after it ends. Its relatively short duration, both overall and per track, contributes to this, though at times it feels like some songs could have been given a bit more room to develop.

The atmospheric passages woven throughout the songs are also a strong point, highlighting the more powerful moments effectively.

The use of the halldorophone — an experimental electroacoustic instrument combining string elements (similar to a cello) with electronic feedback — sounds particularly beautiful. It appears in various parts of the album and also has its own dedicated track, “Aerea”, the final instrumental piece that closes the album.

Standout tracks include the title track “Weeping Waves”, “Valkyria”, and “Regret No More”, although the rest of the album maintains a consistently high level.

Overall, Weeping Waves is an album that will be enjoyed by all fans of melodic extreme metal and beyond. It clearly raises the band’s level and increases their chances of climbing to the upper ranks, not only of the Greek scene but also on a European level. We are also looking forward to hearing these new songs performed live.
