THE OCEAN are set to return to Athens for a special one-night-only performance on December 3 at Gagarin. Joining them are Belgium’s PSYCHONAUT and Hungary’s THE DEVIL’S TRADE, completing an outstanding triple-bill lineup.
The German collective, renowned for its distinctive approach to post-metal, has remained in a constant state of evolution over the past two decades. Through a series of groundbreaking and critically acclaimed releases, THE OCEAN have consistently pushed the boundaries of heavy music, embracing the cerebral, the primal, and the inexplicable in equal measure. From the ominous force of their 2004 debut Aeolian to the 2007 double album Precambrian—described as a “Teutonic hymn to the geology of the Earth”—and the twin atheistic manifestos Heliocentric and Anthropocentric (2010), founder, guitarist, and lyricist Robin Staps, alongside an ever-changing cast of musicians, has methodically built one of the most distinctive legacies in modern heavy music.
This year, THE OCEAN released their twelfth studio album, Solaris, inspired by Andrei Tarkovsky’s visionary film of the same name, a work that explores the nature of artistic and existential inquiry. During their Athens appearance, the band will showcase material from the new album alongside selections spanning their entire discography.
Belgian post-metal trio PSYCHONAUT, following a string of acclaimed EP releases over the past decade, unveiled their debut full-length album World Maker last year. Built upon colossal riffs, punishing polyrhythms, and the commanding vocal performance of Stefan De Graef, the album traverses a vast emotional landscape, ranging from profound vulnerability to explosive aggression.
THE DEVIL’S TRADE, the solo project of Hungarian singer-songwriter Makó Dávid, has forged an impressive international career, becoming one of the few Hungarian acts to have completed more than ten European tours. He has performed at major festivals including Roadburn, Brutal Assault, Hellfest, and Desertfest, while also sharing stages with leading names of the post-metal scene such as ALCEST and AMENRA.
