ORIA Unveil Animated Video for “Pirates, Parrots and Parasites” from Acclaimed Album This Future Wants Us Dead
Progressive groove metal band ORIA have released a striking new animated music video for their track “Pirates, Parrots and Parasites”, taken from their sophomore album This Future Wants Us Dead, out now via Theogonia Records.

The video was created by animator Angelos Charalambous, (@Jellow_M), whose vivid and unsettling visuals bring the song’s dystopian narrative to life.
“Pirates, Parrots and Parasites” imagines a chilling near-future where the world’s artistic legacy has been plundered by a parasitic species that disguises itself as human. These cultural treasures are hoarded aboard an island-sized superyacht, where stolen masterpieces are fed into “the Parrots”; generative AI systems designed to produce endless streams of “silicon pastiche” for the entertainment of the ultra-wealthy.
In this imagined world, audiences can once again hear a holographic performance from Freddie Mercury or watch a “new” film by legendary director Alfred Hitchcock, while real human artists are left to starve. Stripped of agency and livelihood, they are pushed into piracy simply to survive.
The track’s title, “Pirates, Parrots and Parasites” captures the grim hierarchy of this future: dispossessed creators forced into piracy, AI “parrots” endlessly mimicking creativity, and the parasitic elite feeding off the cultural past.
Written as a dark, satirical warning two years ago and released last year, the band now notes that the scenario depicted in the song feels increasingly less like fiction.
With its sharp social commentary and cinematic animation, the video expands the universe of This Future Wants Us Dead while reinforcing ORIA’s reputation for blending progressive groove metal with thought-provoking themes about technology, art, and the future of creativity.
