QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE: Album "Perfecth" listen to the Second Single

The Queens of the Stone Age retain their unique charm unchanged. And it’s not only their sound. It’s their spirit. They are provocative in the truest sense of the word: they are not afraid to explore the dark, the sexual, the surreal, the absurd. Their art growls and seduces with equal intensity—and perhaps never more so than on the band’s ninth album, Perfecth, which will be released on October 30 via Matador Records.

The new single “Insignificant Other” is also released today, and it could be considered the heart of the album. It is the second of only two recordings of the song and captures the band playing loosely and without defenses, spontaneously leaving space for one another. “It’s a song about distance,” says frontman Joshua Homme. “About how someone can be your whole world and then simply disappear. And about that strange dizziness you feel when you find yourself on the other side of that experience.”

The album announcement is accompanied by a video directed by Chapman Baehler, starring Big Chongus as the embodiment of “perfecth.” Joining him are the best boys and girls—Ruby Homme, Max Homme, Pumpkin Van Leeuwen, Isabella Puppolini (Izzy) Van Leeuwen and Reesa Shuman. Produced by Homme and Michael Shuman, Perfecth will be released on CD and Standard Black Vinyl, on Transparent Vinyl through independent record stores, as well as in a limited Deluxe Edition—a gatefold vinyl edition featuring handwritten lyrics, stationery, “stamps” inside a specially designed envelope, as well as a separate piece of artwork housed in a special sleeve—available exclusively through the online stores of QOTSA and Matador. Kintsugi—the Japanese art of repairing broken ceramics, in which the cracks are filled with gold—is based on the idea that something that has been broken can, through restoration, become more beautiful rather than less beautiful.

It is in precisely this spirit that Perfecth was created. It is an album that could only have been made at this particular moment, as Homme, Troy Van Leeuwen, Michael Shuman, Dean Fertita and Jon Theodore have made significant progress as a unit and have reached a hard-earned clarity. Its nine songs map out different forms of love: for family, friends and others—important and insignificant. The loves that break you beyond any limit of survival, and those that rebuild you from the ground up.

The album’s music is fearless and without boundaries, dark and threatening, tender and strange, and was created through recording sessions that took place from New Orleans to Los Angeles. Here, the Queens have managed to align the sharpest pieces of an entire career. “Every song sounds like it comes from a different world,” says Homme. “And that’s intentional, because it’s trying to bring together all these emotions that revolve around love, lust, stupidity and that kind of wisdom that comes as a gift through all of it.”

The record is called Perfecth because the word “perfect” was never really honest. Perfection does not exist. So Homme “broke” the word and turned it into “perfecth,” a more appropriate spelling for a term that never felt quite right to him in the first place. “Nothing in this world is perfect, but everything seems to be ‘perfecth’,” he explains. “And that title is funny when you’re inside a group, but it’s not so funny when you’re alone.”

While fans wait for the new album, they can express their complaints and grumbles, their woes and protests, any dissatisfaction, whining or grievance they desire, through the official Queens of the Stone Age Complaint Hotline at +1 (760) 437-1966. In fact, those who call may even find a real person on the other end of the line.

The Complaint Hotline was opened following the enthusiastic reception of the new Queens of the Stone Age single, “Easy Street (feat. Nikki Lane)”. The song was first performed live last year as part of the much-discussed Catacombs tour, and fans had been eagerly awaiting it. It was the band’s first new music since 2023’s In Times New Roman…. Meanwhile, Homme has taken part in two major recent collaborations: with Shania Twain on her new single “Faded Blue Jeans”, and with guest vocals on Mastodon’s powerful new track, “Snakes for Dinner”.

The Queens of the Stone Age continue their North American stadium tour with Foo Fighters on September 15, while they recently announced a series of fall headline shows in Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Singapore.
