Metal Blade Records is an independent American record label, founded in 1982 by Brian Slagel in Los Angeles, California. It is considered one of the most important labels in the global heavy metal scene, with a strong focus on heavy metal and extreme metal genres.The label’s first release was the compilation Metal Massacre, which featured then-unknown bands from the L.A. scene such as Metallica, Ratt, and Malice. The success of this release led to the official founding of Metal Blade Records.
Over the decades, Metal Blade has played a key role in promoting and developing major acts in the metal world. In 2017, the label was inducted into the Hall of Heavy Metal History for its contribution to the genre.
