AmongRuins – “Advent of Chaos” album review

Fourth album from our beloved AmongRuins, titled “Advent of Chaos”.

After the highly successful Land of the Black Sun, the Greek representatives of melodic death metal return with their most ambitious work to date, which will be released via Theogonia Records.

The band, which since its formation in 2012 has followed a steadily rising path on the international metal scene, delivers yet another complete and high-quality album, showcasing the sound they have carefully built over all these years.

Powerful riffs, melodic guitars, and groovy passages are interwoven with crushing sections, while a dark atmosphere is ever-present through a modern melodic death metal approach that is served in the best possible way on Advent of Chaos.

Once again, the production on an AmongRuins album is exactly as it should be, carrying the weight, depth, and power that define the band. The album was mixed and mastered by Saku Moilanen (Deep Noise Studios, Finland). The artwork was created by Nikos Stavridakis (Vision Black Art) and is truly impressive, adding further artistic value to the album.

Advent of Chaos thematically revolves around destruction, rebirth, and the chaotic forces that shape our world, expressed through the captivating vocals of Sotiris “Sverd”.

From the opening track “Frozen to the Core”, the heavy “Advent of Chaos”, the outstanding “Red Divine”, “Into the Flame” featuring guest vocals by Christianna (Elysion), the emotionally charged “A Symphony of Loss”, the melancholic “Open Wounds” with vocal participation by George Prokopiou (Mother of Millions, Poem), the direct and intense “Chained”, all the way to the imposing “Night Mother”, AmongRuins keep the listener’s interest unwavering throughout the album.

We should also not overlook the contribution of Christos Mitros on keyboards, which enriches the album with dark, atmospheric sound layers.

Every listener should explore Advent of Chaos, as beyond what is immediately apparent, there is much more that invites deeper reflection.

With Advent of Chaos, AmongRuins continue their upward trajectory, honoring their musical roots in the best possible way and placing the band firmly on a path toward broader recognition. The foundations have been laid for years, allowing us today to experience an album that will remain among our listening choices for a long time to come.
