The Broken Morning are a Heavy Rock, Stoner and Doom Metal band from Athens, Greece. Formed in 2010, they have released three full-length albums: Strangers Among Strangers (2014), Time for Retribution (2017) and Victory Through Loss (2026).
On the occasion of the release of their new album, we get to know the band better through a conversation about their formation, musical influences, journey so far and latest release.
METALWAR: Can you tell us a few things about the band’s name? Where did the inspiration come from?
BROKEN MORNING: It is the title of a song by one of my favourite bands and a major influence when I started Broken Morning: Spiritual Beggars!
METALWAR: Vasilis Sotiriou is the man behind Broken Morning. Can you tell us what sparked the creation of the band?
BROKEN MORNING: Shortly before forming Broken Morning, I was playing in two bands, Dog Tired and Mistful Fusion. I created Broken Morning because I wanted a more personal musical project through which I could pay tribute to my musical heroes and influences.
METALWAR: So far, you have released three interesting full-length albums. As mentioned earlier, the first two share some common elements, whereas the third one, Victory Through Loss, released this year, is quite different. What accounts for this change?
BROKEN MORNING: The majority of the songs on all three albums had been written during the band’s first two years. It was a very productive period, which I always remember with joy and nostalgia.
The original plan was for the songs on Victory Through Loss to be released as our second album. However, I had a hunch—which fortunately turned out to be right—that I should save them for our third album, so that I could gain more experience as a musician and producer.
As a result, the experience we gained through our third collaboration with David Prudent at Made in Hell Studio gave us the knowledge to present you with the best and most mature Broken Morning album to date!
METALWAR: Which tracks best represent this new chapter for the band?
BROKEN MORNING: “Evil Rise” and “Victory Through Loss” are among the heaviest tracks, while “My Valentine Is Dead” leans more towards goth metal.
“Perpetual Dream” features some black metal touches, while “Dirty Fairy” retains the timeless blues/heavy character that defines Broken Morning’s identity!
METALWAR: If you could go back in time and change something, what would it be?
BROKEN MORNING: I wouldn’t change anything, because I know that all those moments from the past, both good and bad, have brought me to this happy present: giving an interview to you and talking about our album!
METALWAR: Where will we have the chance to see you live in the coming period?
BROKEN MORNING: We haven’t announced anything yet, but we are currently preparing a live show to present the album, which will once again be unforgettable!
The relevant information will, of course, be announced on the band’s social media channels.
METALWAR: What do you consider the most important moment in your journey so far?
BROKEN MORNING: The completion of all three of our albums (Strangers Among Strangers, Time for Retribution and Victory Through Loss) at Made in Hell Studio. We hope you will listen to this trilogy and enjoy it!
METALWAR: Would you like to send a message to our followers?
BROKEN MORNING: In recent years, life and the daily struggle to survive have become difficult. All the more reason to keep listening to the music you love, watching the films you enjoy and reading the books you want to read—in general, anything that allows the mind and the heart to escape, even for a little while, from the endless cycle of survival.
See you in person at the live shows!
