Just over a week after ‘Speak in Whispers’ made history by becoming the first Cypriot band to perform at Wacken Open Air through Wacken Metal Battle, Cyprus’ metal scene is once again stepping onto one of Europe’s biggest stages.
On Sunday, 9 August, Cypriot bands ‘Joakem’ and ‘Ka’aper’ will perform at Bloodstock Open Air, the UK’s largest independent metal festival, after earning their places through Metal 2 The Masses Cyprus, the country’s official Bloodstock qualifying competition, organised by Rock Island Events.
The competition provides emerging bands with the opportunity to perform on Bloodstock’s renowned New Blood Stage, which has become a launchpad for some of the most exciting new talent in heavy music.
The Cypriot bands will perform on Sunday, 9 August:
Ka’aper – 11:15 – 11:45
Joakem – 13:30 – 14:00
Representatives from Rock Island Events are accompanying both bands throughout the festival, continuing their mission of creating international opportunities for Cypriot artists and helping showcase the island’s thriving metal scene on the global stage.
Mike Angastiniotis, Co-Founder of Rock Island Events, said:
“If someone had told me a few years ago that there would be Cypriot metal bands playing at both Wacken Open Air and Bloodstock Festival in the same summer, I would have said that
they are dreaming! Today though, this is a reality. It just shows that Cypriot bands have the talent, professionalism and determination to compete on some of Europe’s biggest stages when given the opportunity. It’s a representation of our scene’s upward trajectory!”

“For us at Rock Island Events, the biggest achievement isn’t simply that two more bands are performing at Bloodstock. It’s that Cyprus is beginning to establish itself on the European metal map. There is an incredible amount of musical talent on the island, and the standard of our scene continues to grow year after year. The appearances of Joakem and Ka’aper at Bloodstock represent another significant
milestone for Cyprus’ alternative music scene, reinforcing the country’s growing reputation within the international metal community and demonstrating that Cypriot artists are increasingly earning recognition far beyond the island’s shores.
