SECRET CHIEFS 3
FANGE
Music without boundaries. Extreme music without limitations.
On 20 March 2027 at Gagarin 205 in Athens and 21 March at Principal in Thessaloniki, three of the most distinctive and restless names in contemporary extreme, experimental and avant-garde music will come together for two shows that refuse to treat musical genres as boundaries, instead embracing them as material to be explored.
At the heart of the event are Igorrr, the unique musical universe of French multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer Gautier Serre. Drawing inspiration from artists as diverse as Bach, Chopin and Domenico Scarlatti, as well as Meshuggah, Cannibal Corpse, Taraf de Haïdouks and Aphex Twin, Serre founded Igorrr in 2005, creating a musical idiom in which contrasts are not smoothed over, but remain visible and coexist within the same compositions.
Igorrr’s music moves from death and black metal to baroque and classical harmonies, from blast beats and breakcore to trip hop and electronic production, and from folk traditions and acoustic instruments to opera and operatic vocals. This is not simply a collection of influences, but a highly personal musical language in which the extreme can coexist with the fragile, distortion with melody, and technical precision with instinct. Igorrr have created a musical vocabulary in which contrasts become an essential component of the composition itself.
From their early demos and Nostril (2010) to Spirituality and Distortion and Amen, Igorrr have continued to evolve without repeating themselves. Amen features Trey Spruance of Secret Chiefs 3 on “Blastbeat Falafel”, establishing a direct artistic connection between the two projects that will share the stage.
Secret Chiefs 3, the multifaceted project led by Trey Spruance, founding member of Mr. Bungle, move between death metal, surf rock, metal, electronic music, film soundtracks, Eastern musical traditions and traditional forms, creating a singular universe in which composition feels more like exploration than adherence to a specific genre. Since the mid-1990s, the project has operated as a constantly evolving musical laboratory, exploring different aesthetics, eras and musical traditions.
Completing the bill are Fange from Brittany, France. Since 2013, they have explored the meeting point between sludge, death metal, noise and industrial music, developing a heavy and intensely physical sound. With Purulences, the band return to guitars and death-metal songwriting while retaining the industrial and noise identity that has defined their journey.
Igorrr, Secret Chiefs 3 and Fange: three different musical paths, three distinctive approaches, united by the same desire for exploration.
