Metalwar: Hello Ka’aper. Nice to have you here. As it seems, the band is on full power. New album, live shows. A very “busy” and creative 2026 so far. What do you think of that?
Ka’aper: Hey guys! Evgeny here! Thanks for having me!
Yeah, it’s busy and, to be honest, we’re really happy about it. We’re working hard, and it’s paying off. The album turned out amazing, just as we planned. A lot of shows are already announced, and even more are coming.
Metalwar: “When Gods Walked The Earth”. Which is the story behind the album? Which ideas and feelings have driven you to create and release this album?
Ka’aper: It’s the same Ka’aper as before. We continue exploring ancient Egyptian history and mythology, but this time we allowed ourselves to look at modern times through its prism. Mostly, I just listen to the music the guys or I have written, and lyrics just come to my mind easily.
Metalwar: Who are “responsible” for the lyrics and music? It was “one man job” for each section, or there was contribution from all the band members?
Ka’aper: I write all the lyrics and vocal parts, and the rest of the music is a result of working together. Mostly, someone from the band brings an idea – a demo version of a song, just its skeleton – then I listen to it, add lyrics and vocals, and then we polish it. To be honest, I’m really proud that everyone in the band is involved in writing music. Yes, from time to time it’s really hard, as each band member is a stubborn pain in the ass, but it helps us create the music you hear – a collective vision of several musicians.
Metalwar: Apart from the “obvious” partners in “crime” from which music and lyrics were written, who else put his “art” as to contribute to what hear today, as the new release?
Ka’aper: Of course, the first person who should be mentioned is Max Baryshnikov – our mixing/mastering engineer, who has been with us from the very beginning. He’s not on stage with us, but be sure, he added a lot of interesting touches. He calls it a “producer’s UFO” for some reason. Also, the beautiful vocalists Julia Selikhova from Buzzouter and Mike Angastiniotis from Stormcast, who joined us on this journey and contributed a lot to this album. And of course, my lovely wife Ellen Pcheliakova recorded violins for the album – her parts are not numerous, but very important.
Metalwar: Honestly, I cannot tell a song better than another one. Is this something like that for you or maybe one that has a special meaning to the band?
Ka’aper: I don’t want to pretend and go for the usual “all songs are my children, I love them all equally” kind of answer. Fuck it – if they are my children, then a few of them are clearly experiencing a lack of father’s love. Personally, I really love Amenhotep – it’s a very cinematic and catchy track. Pharaoh is also among my favourites – groovy and very dark. After the Gods is heavy and probably the most progressive one. And of course, the tracks with guest vocals – Lament for Osiris and Hiding – I get goosebumps every time I hear the guys singing.
They’re amazing vocalists, so make sure to check out their main bands, Stormcast and Buzzouter.
Metalwar: As I mentioned at the beginning of the interview, there is high creativity in terms of live shows as well. Will there be a promotion tour of the album or something like this?
Ka’aper: Yes, definitely – and probably several of them, as well as more single shows across Europe and the Middle East. Make sure you follow us on Instagram to be among the first to know when we’re coming to your city.
Metalwar: Any plans/thoughts for a Greek show /tour?
Ka’aper: For sure! We performed in Athens in April, and the Greek audience was amazing, so I’m sure we’ll be back soon!
Metalwar: While the interview comes to the end, I couldn’t forget the great step of Ka’aper by gaining their position to Bloodstock 2026! Is it a milestone for you and as a result your inner demands and standards are going higher and higher?
Ka’aper: Hard work always brings results, and our slot at Bloodstock 2026 is one of them. We try really hard to be heard. How many bands can release two albums within two years of their existence? One in a hundred, I think. Moreover, we’re trying to play as many shows as possible. It leads to many problems, as we have day jobs and families, but we deal with these issues on a daily basis to be able to play great shows for our listeners.
Metalwar: Before closing this cool interview, which is your message to all of those who will watch you on stage in the following months?
Ka’aper: These guys in their thirties and forties still have a lot of energy – be ready for it when you come to headbang with us. Hope to see you really soon, and thanks a lot for your interest.
