Starting there, in the early 1990s, born from the heart of Greek black metal and with a clear gaze toward Varathron and Necromantia, Nergal developed in their first period as exponents of the ferocious first wave of the scene.
The band’s first significant era came to an end in 1996, having presented three demos, one EP, one split with Funeral Urn, and the album The Wizard of Nerath.
The second period for Nergal began ten years later, in 2006, with the album Absinthos, continuing over time with two more albums, Σαεταν έξι – έξι – έξι (2011) and Νύκτα γεμάτη θάματα – νύκτα σπαρμένη μάγια (2017).
Arriving at the present day, nine years after their last work, the Greek black metallers declare their absolute return to the early and majestic era of the Greek sound as it was once beloved.
Blessed captures the Nergal seal within Greek black metal, showing no interest in shallow evolution or meaningless innovation.
Through Blessed, Nergal are reborn, delivering exactly what anyone who has even slightly engaged with the Greek sound wants.
Blood-soaked riffs, furious vocals, dark passages, and a seething atmosphere full of emotion.
Keyboards with the characteristic ’90s sound and a production exactly as everyone expects to hear in every release of this kind.
Crucial to the compositions is the addition of Nyogtha (guitar–bass) to the band.
These six compositions are an experience offered by devotees to devotees.
Cult is not a concept; it is not simply a term we mention. Here it is lived experience — a source from which all who followed drew inspiration and carried on this global phenomenon.
Those who know Greek black metal need no analysis, only the first listen. For the rest, the uninitiated, discover the roots of that which everyone around the world recognizes, attempts to imitate, but cannot — because emotions cannot be copied.
