A German name meaning “injustice,” German industrial aesthetics straight out of the big clubs of Berlin, but UNRECHT burst onto the scene in 2023 from further south, specifically Madrid. Their debut album, entitled “A Thousand And One Nightmares,” was released a few days ago, and it certainly offers something completely different for metal music.

The main axis on which they move is not easy to pinpoint, although Industrial Metal probably stands out. Beyond that, the band’s heavy metal influences are clearly discernible, interspersed with elements of rap, hip hop, and even ethnic music (as in the intro of “History”). The same variety prevails in the vocals from the two singers, Druma and Und. From black, dark vocals (as in “Unrecht”) to spoken words, rap (see “Never” and others) and clean passages.

A common feature of all these is the playing and riffs of guitarist Helm, which I think are really top notch in many parts, such as in the second part of “Unlock.” The highlight for me is “Vultur,” which is probably the most conventional song on the album, with a nice intro and melody.

Visually, UNRECHT follow the fashion of our times with their masked appearance and uniform costumes, while the videos they have released have a fairly modern and industrial aesthetic.

In general, we are talking about something contemporary and probably unfamiliar to older generations of metalheads, but which will certainly resonate with younger listeners. The 10 songs on the album attempt to convey all of the band’s influences quickly and clearly (all songs are 3-4 minutes long), although the final result seems somewhat overloaded with information. Nevertheless, UNTRECHT is definitely a band worth keeping an eye on in the future.
