XATHRA is a Spanish Hard Rock / Heavy Metal band formed in 2003 in Granada. A few days ago, they released their new EP entitled “Renacer,” which means “rebirth,” putting us right in the mood for the EP, since the band itself believes that through these five songs, it is attempting an artistic rebirth that brings it closer to its musical roots and opens a new chapter.

What stands out immediately in all five songs are the distinctive guitars, either in their harder rock/heavy metal style, as in the opening track “El Cielo Tambien Llora” (“The Sky Also Cries”) or “Te encontrare” (“I will find you”) or in their more classic form, as in “En Ninuan Lugar.” “XIII” is perhaps my favorite song because of the ups and downs in tension and rhythm with the drums and guitars alternating and complementing each other in perhaps the best way on the whole EP. Finally, Spanish is a musical language, so it fits perfectly with the compositions.

Overall, “Renacer” is not something that will change the listener’s life, nor is it a sophisticated proposition, but it achieves its goal of giving character to XATHRA, who make their own statement through it.
