Getting to know new bands from around the world is one of the main goal of our webzine. UNRECHT is one of those bands, eager to grow bigger and spread their wings outside their country, Spain. So, we had the opportunity to talk to them and find out more about their music, their career and their views on music in general.
Metalwar: Hello guys! Welcome to Metalwar! Thank you for your time. First of all, introduce your band to the Greek metalheads.
UNRECHT: Hello there! Thanks for having us, always a pleasure!
For those who our name don´t ring a bell, we are UNRECHT, a metal band from Spain, we´ve just released our first album “A Thousand and One Nightmares”, and screaming to make our way in the scene!
Metalwar: You are from Spain but you chose a German name. What’s the story behind that?
UNRECHT: When UNRECHT started, there was a heavy influence from industrial metal, specially RAMMSTEIN. At one point at the beginning we even paid a full tribute to them. As today, we evolved into a more modern sound, finding ourselves with new influences.
Metalwar: While listening to your debut album, “A Thousand And One Nightmares”, I pinpointed many different genres like heavy metal, industrial metal, rap etc. Which artists or bands have influenced you the most?
UNRECHT: The thing with UNRECHT is we are all almost different ages, and that gap makes it interesting when it comes to bands. Of course, there’s always the classics, for example RAMMSTEIN, but we´ve come to incorporate elements from newer bands, and even other genres like musics of the world. Hopefully someone could catch up to that!
Metalwar: You are at the beginning of your career as UNRECHT but how has this project evolved so far?
UNRECHT: Again, we started almost as a tribute band, then we incorporated our own brain and guts to those roots, until the band that it is today.
Metawar: What is the creative process behind your album?
UNRECHT: The songs where slow cooked into rehearsal room, but by the time we met Raul Abellán, our producer, they changed radically, turning more aggressive and, again, leaking other points of reference to fill the songs and the sound we were looking for.
Metalwar: What inspires you the most when you create a song and what are the themes you are exploring, as far as the lyrics are concerned?
UNRECHT: Especially for lyrics, you have to be moved inside, feel what you´re talking about. Some of the songs, “UNLOCK” for example, are about real life events that marked our lives, and others like “TAURUS” reflect our opinions about animal torture and bullfighting. Maybe the weird one in this aspect is “”, because it was written for a B-Series horror movie called “The Nanny´s Night”.
Metalwar: Your image is quite modern with the masks and the futuristic outfit. Why did you choose to follow that direction and how does that fit to the whole concept behind UNRECHT?
UNRECHT: When the band began to roll, there were not so many masked bands, or at least not so referenced in the public eye (ex. Presidents, Sleep Token), but it was a way to stay apart in the Spanish scene and make ourselves more visible. When we started the production of the album, we had to upgrade what we were just using previous years, hence the futuristic outfit.
Metalwar: To be honest, I have no idea what one of your live shows looks like but I believe it must be really impressive. What do you present to your fans?
UNRECHT: Well, you gotta be there! Our job is to make no one stand still, make it a total, raw energy party. Of course, the aesthetics, lighting and pyro helps a lot. We are one of the few bands in the Spanish underground that tries to make a full production even in a fucking parking lot if necessary, if that means turn the gig upside down!
Metalwar: Let’s talk about current reality. The world is in flames once again and I want to ask you if you believe that music or arts in general should stay neutral or if they should be a means of expressing an opinion.
UNRECHT: Music always reflects history and reality, and everyone has an opinion about it. We are currently working on things for the second LP and, while “A thousand and One Nightmares” moves more into personal themes, probably will be closer to reflect our reality in what the world is living.
Metalwar: Another hot topic in arts is the increasing use of Artificial Intelligence. What is your stance on this issue?
UNRECHT: AI can be a good help in some areas, maybe more technical (IT, medical work) but not in the art. It´s still a reserved space for putting your soul into it, and express yourself.

Metalwar: Last but not least, how do you see the new way of promoting and sharing music via streaming platforms and the subsequent decrease in physical sales (with the exception of vinyls that are gaining market share)?
UNRECHT: Honestly, it´s the only way we´ve known. Most of our members are some way in the 20´s, so streaming is a main. Of course, physical sales and merch is always the main income for the bands, especially in the underground scene, and that´s where you have to put the eggs in the basket.
Metalwar: I would like to close this interview with a question about the future of UNRECHT. What are your plans for 2026 and what are your dreams for the band in the long run?
UNRECHT: For this year we are right now booking some gigs touring all Spain, debuting the LP in different cities. By 2027 we hope to have some new material and maybe Europe is next (including you, Greece!)
Metalwar: Thank you very much for your time. I really wish you all the best and I hope to see you in Greece sometime in the future!
UNRECHT: Thank you so much for having us, it´s been a pleasure, and we hope so too, will love to rock on Greece very soon!
